Shine

Today my yoga teacher said this…”Let what you love and what you do be the same thing”.

In other words, Do what you love.

I have to admit, I don’t always do what I love because I don’t love laundry and I do a lot of that.

However, when I am practicing Holy Yoga, I am doing what I love.  Literally, all the things I love rolled into one – Jesus, yoga, prayer, music, worship, work out, community, laughter, and play.  Holy Yoga creates space for inner transformation…open hearts…love.  If someone would have told me even two years ago that my comfortable, happy place would be teaching yoga, I would not have believed it.  I didn’t see myself as a barefoot teacher worshipping God through Yoga and music and Scripture.  But God saw it and He led me here.  He led me to the Gospel of Grace and to a beautiful community rooted in Gospel living.  I am forever grateful.

I recently had a chance to teach a Holy Yoga class on the beach.  Here’s what it looked like:

GBY yoga on the beach

I don’t always practice outside but I love to.  There is nothing in the world like practicing yoga and worshipping God under the skies He created.  The wind seems to blow at just the right time.  My daughter said when I started class and lifted my arms, the sun came out.  I don’t know if that’s exactly true but I believe it because that’s what happens when we do what we love.  We get love back.

Whether it’s the sun shining or the wind blowing or just a calm peaceful feeling in our hearts, we feel that light feeling, that feeling of it being “right” and “good”.  We feel like ourselves.

I read a quote from Anne Lamott recently that says, “Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.”

Don’t think about the woulda, coulda, shoulda’s…think about what you love.  What is it?

What makes you shine?

Do that.

Please check out the Holy Yoga classes I will be teaching in August.  Click on the Class Schedule tab at the top of the page for information.  I pray that you will join us!
