Happy New Year! New Podcast with my friend, Chidimma, theTYPEAhippie

Happy New Year!!!

I am so excited for 2017! I hope you are too! I challenge you to think about your “YES”. What is it? My friend asks, “What gets you up in the morning?” and my answer to that is God and “Thank you God!” but what I want to ask is, “Are you living a life you love?”.  If not, why not?  Can you spend some time in prayer and ask the Lord, “What more do you have for me Lord?” and think about your gifts and your passions and what makes you feel alive and awakened.  God has a special plan for you.  A “calling” that is unique to you with your experiences, your desires, your talents, your resources, your connections…YOU and only you can fulfill this particular calling. Some of us may be thinking, “Who, me?” YES, YOU!! My hope and prayer is that we can all live lives we love.  That we can all celebrate and say thank you together for a world (including us) that is awakened to the possibilities of all of us living lives of passion and purpose. YES? AMEN?

“But friends, you’re not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You’re sons of Light, daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand. So let’s not sleepwalk through life like those others.” – Thessalonians 5:4-5

It’s Tuesday so here is our first podcast of the year!

I’m speaking with my friend, Chidimma Ozor, about all the amazing work she is doing.  She is a yoga teacher, essential oils enthusiast, blogger, podcaster, and all around cool chick. She and I talk about everything and this podcast is kind of funny because we started recording after we had been talking for awhile.  You will feel like you are entering into the middle of a conversation and we are all over the map! I hope you enjoy.  My desire is to have these podcasts feel like you are a fly on the wall, listening into conversations between friends who are sharing their dreams and desires and celebrating how God is working in their lives. Here are all the ways to keep in touch with Chi and what she has going on:

In the New Year, I Will Wear Jeans That Fit

IMG_3730

I was trying on jeans the other day.  I found a box with a bunch from years past and I tried them all on.  Every brand was in there.  And every size. All the styles…skinny, flared, boot cut, boyfriend, ripped, cropped, light, dark, stretchy, bedazzled.

They represent all the different phases of my life.  There is the young stage, the mom stage, all the sizes up and down the pregnancy years, the fancy going out jeans, the run around town jeans, the ones you wear with your boots and the ones that can handle heels. Some have been tailored to fit like a glove, others hang low, hand me downs from my husband, ripped and torn and way too roomy.  Some have paint splats from my days of painting furniture.  Some are ripped on purpose, others from wear.

There is no other item of clothing that I love more.  Jeans are my jam.  I feel like myself in jeans.  However, I’ve realized that more times than I care to admit, I have worn jeans that make me feel “not myself”.  Trying on all of these jeans the other day, I realized I’m ready to move on.

I’m not saying I won’t keep them. I will pack them away in a box to pull out when I feel like reminiscing.  I will think of them like a living, fashion photo album.  I will love them and appreciate them but I won’t long to be in them.

I have grown up.  I am wiser and a little wider.  And it’s okay if they no longer fit.

In the new year, I will wear jeans that fit. I will put them on like a comfy blanket and I will be warmed.  I will wear them like a boss with my boots and my big blingy Texas belt buckle.  I will wear jeans that make me feel like me.  The real me.  The 46 year old me.  The one who is brave and kind and thoughtful.  The me that understands where she has been and is joyfully expectant about where she is going.  The peaceful yogi me and the silly, loud, singing at the top of her lungs me.  The me that likes to eat and hike and dance and laugh and travel.  The me that mothers teenagers.  The me that humbly understands how small I am.  The me that knows what needs to be done and can do it.  The obedient me. The rebellious me. Flaws and mistakes and successes and all of it.  I like it.  I own it.  I love me.

I have earned this confidence.

You have too.  You’ve earned the right to shine in whatever fits you.

Let’s do this.  Let’s strut together out into the world.  Confident and courageous. Bold and strong. Let’s show our daughters what aging really looks like.  I can see it now and it’s beautiful.

A bing band of women, walking together arm in arm, worthy and beloved, comfortable in their skin…and their jeans.

The Year of YES

GBY YES 2015

Happy New Year!

The last few days I’ve been reading all the posts about what YOU NEED TO DO TO BE HAPPY and SKINNY and IN LOVE and FULFILLED and  MORE ORGANIZED and BLAH BLAH BLAH.

I’ll be up front with you.  I’m not that kind of girl.

I won’t be telling you how to do anything.

I don’t have all the answers.

Sometimes I wonder why I’m writing a blog at all.  Truth is I don’t know much for sure. But then I remember.  I like writing.  I like pretty pictures.  I like playing with fonts and new apps and photos.  I like feeling connected.  I like this community.

I set out to write about Jesus and faith.  I dreamed of a people opening their in boxes and seeing an email that makes them smile or think or pray or thank.  Maybe my words would go out to 10 people or 100 people or more.  Maybe they would touch one heart.  I didn’t know and I still don’t.

In May of 2010, I felt God saying, “Go ahead, try it” and I said, “YES”.  I had no idea what I was doing.  But for some reason, that didn’t scare me.

One yes leads to another yes and on and on.

For me, this yes has led to a deepening of my faith.  A once a week sit down with God and the computer has turned into an every day all day best friend connection with Jesus.

It really doesn’t have anything to do with the blog. Jesus would have pursued me another way.  He doesn’t need me to do any sort of work to meet Him.  He doesn’t require that we write or do holy yoga or lead Bible studies or speak to crowds of people about Him.  But isn’t it so great that He uses fun, exciting things that we are passionate about to reach us?  Isn’t it great that He does healing and growth and sanctification through the things that we love?  I believe He LOVES to marry our passions and our purpose so we can talk about Him with JOY and LAUGHTER and EXCITEMENT.

He will use it all.  He will find a way into our hearts. He relentlessly pursues us because He loves us.  So, this blog didn’t reveal Jesus to me and I know that my writing won’t reveal Jesus to you.

Jesus will reveal Himself.

He will open doors.

He will offer opportunities.

He wants us.

He wants you.

This year say Yes.

Whatever it is you feel Him calling you to…no matter how outlandish the sound…even if no one else understands…when your heart is beating fast and you are short of breath and you just know it’s the Holy Spirit…say, “Yes”.

Then He will reveal the next step.

We don’t have to know where we are going.

He does.

Next time He opens that door for you…go ahead…walk through it unafraid.  He’s got this.
