New podcast! 25 in the Rear View – Quarterly Review

Hi Friends! Can you believe this? I have recorded 25 episodes of the Great Big YES! podcast!! What??? I figured this monumental occasion required a review…a looking back.  So this one is just me talking, no guest, nothing fancy, just my heart and my gratitude. Also, some silly stories that may or may not have to do with anything. I’m just so grateful to y’all for listening in.  And HUGE shout out to the guests who willingly said YES! to sharing their stories.  I am forever changed by your courage and honesty.  It has been an honor.

I am taking April off from podcasting.  So I figure that is a great time for y’all to catch up on listening!! 🙂 I KNOW there are a million and one podcasts and more coming every day…you are thinking…I don’t have time for this!! My mom said (Hi Mom!) she waits until she has a good block of time to listen so some are in the que.  I get that.  I love a podcast on a walk or a long drive or on the treadmill or maybe in the kitchen if I’m cooking (like that ever happens) or doing dishes (every 3 days or so).  Or feel free to put your feet up, your headphones on and enjoy this one with your cup of coffee or your glass of wine.  Whatever suits you. 🙂

In April, I plan to read, write, listen, sing, dance, draw, study, soak, chill, laugh, celebrate, enjoy and exhale. Isn’t that a good plan? I’ll be traveling a little in real life and probably a lot in my head. I need some dreaming time. How about you? What are you dreaming about? It can’t always be go, go, go, create, create, create.  Sometimes you really need to soak in the world and it’s people and FEEL it. Ya know?

So picture me virtually hugging you.  Like, squishing you and thanking you and smiling so big because I CAN’T EVEN BELIEVE I HAVE A PODCAST. But it’s cool. No biggie. As a wise person once said, “Sue, calm down, act like you’ve been in the end zone before.” (I’m in Texas now so football references are all there is. Literally.)

Thanks for listening. Thanks for allowing these stories to change you.  Thanks for making room for the Great Big YES! in your life. I’ve got some ROCKIN’ people coming on in May so take this time to catch up and please join us when we are back.  Let me know what you think, what you want to hear, how God is meeting you here, if you would like to share your story, if you have an idea for a guest, whatever. FILL ME IN FRIENDS. I don’t want to be out here in podcast land like the lone ranger. I wish we could all have a roundtable discussion.  EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. Would it end in song? In Holy Spirit tears? Dancing? What would be your favorite thing to talk about?

I love you. That’s all. I’m grateful. I’ve been changed. Who right now is thinking of Wicked? I am. I have definitely been changed for GOOD.

Praise God. Amen. xoxoxo

Podcast #20- Carrie Strachan, Parenting a Child With Special Needs

Oh y’all… This one is so good!! I cried a little during our conversation. I know that probably comes as no surprise to you. This is a HOLY conversation about parenting a child with special needs.  I am speaking with my friend, Carrie Strachan.  She has four beautiful children and her son Matthew has Down Syndrome. He is 20 years old now.  This will bless you if you have a child with special needs no doubt but also if you don’t.  Because Carrie is a blessing.  She is wise and kind and thoughtful.  She is my friend through Holy Yoga and I was mentioning to another friend from Holy Yoga that we were recording a podcast and that friend said, “Don’t you love her?  Don’t you just want to crawl up on the couch with her and have her talk to you and make you feel like everything is going to be alright?” Uh…yes. So consider yourself curled up on the couch with us, listening and sharing and drinking coffee and feeling less alone. That’s my hope…that you will feel a part of this conversation among friends.

Moms…we see you…we feel you.  When we talk about living out a greater calling on  your life, there is no greater calling than that of being a mom. I know some days it really feels like drudgery.  I can’t tell you how often I think, “Why do these people need to eat again?” My mom gave me a magnet once that says, “Who are these people and why are they calling me mom?” Honestly, it’s just so ordinary and routine and downright boring at times.

But God. He is so in this.  And if you let Him in, the results, the outcome of all your years of hard work…the kids grown…you grown…your marriage grown…it’s just downright spectacular.  Amazing.

This motherhood thing never ends, it doesn’t matter how old your kids are.  In addition to parenting, we are usually trying to figure out all the other tough stuff including marriage, career, and faith life.  Or if you are like me you might still be trying to figure out how to do laundry well and what’s for dinner.  Half the time we are just wondering, “Is everyone going to turn out alright?  Am I even all right? Who put me in charge?”

I’ve heard it said that our kids pick us. I don’t think that necessarily but I do trust that God picks us. He specifically gives us the children who need us and who we need.  Our children force us to lean into God because we don’t have all the answers.  And there He is.  Loving us.  Transforming us.

He loves our children more than we do.  They were His first.  He knows every hair on their head and He calls them good.  Every single unique child, born to change the world. Isn’t it miraculous?

I’m grateful for this conversation.  I hope you will listen in and be encouraged!

Happy Valentine’s day!

New Podcast with Carrissa Bradford – Founder of the Adamo Nail Bar

I love this podcast because this idea is so amazing and Carrissa has brought it to life!! I’m speaking with Carrissa Bradford, the founder of the Adamo Group.  We recorded in the trailer that is the Adamo Nail Bar.  Carrissa tells the story of the trailer’s restoration which is so fun to see!   I’ve posted pictures below.  She is going to be training survivors of sex trafficking in the trade of manicuring and then helping them find jobs! This is such an important part of the healing and restoration story of the survivors.  Listen in to hear the vision God has given to Carrissa! I love this woman’s faith! You will be inspired!
