EGO

I saw a great movie by Wayne Dyer called “The Shift”.  This movie is about moving away from a life of ambition and toward a life of meaning.  It’s about shifting your life’s perception and purpose.  It’s about getting in touch with your source.  It’s worth watching.

Dr. Dyer talks about the EGO.  He says that EGO stands for “Edging God Out”.  Don’t you love that?  How are you “Edging God Out”?

I’ll go first…I EGO when I try to control every little thing.  I EGO when I am blind to the beauty of creation.  I EGO when I waste resources.  I EGO when I see faults in other people.  I EGO when I demand my way when I know it may not be God’s way.  I EGO when I have too many things.  I EGO when I hurt others with words (this applies even when the others can’t hear me).  I EGO when I don’t forgive.

Now, because I believe we need to be kind and forgiving to ourselves, I want to (need to?) list ways I Let God In.  I LGI when I appreciate the beauty around me.  I LGI when I am grateful.  I LGI when I open my heart to others.  I LGI when I am supportive.  I LGI when I stand up for what is right.  I LGI when I pray.  I LGI when I read God’s word.  I LGI when I listen.  I LGI when I practice acceptance (of myself and others).  I LGI when I forgive.

See, that’s the beauty of people.  We have good days and bad days.  We have strengths and weaknesses.  We are not “one trick ponies”.  We are multi-dimensional, complicated, flawed people but we clean up well.

When we become aware of when we are Edging God Out, we can change our behavior and begin to Let God In.  How great is that?  Every day, actually every moment, is another chance to Let God In.

Can you picture God where you are now?  Not some formal interpretation of a scary, punishing God but more like a friend?  A really good friend who understands, laughs, and doesn’t care if your kitchen is a mess.  He’s just hanging around, being present, ready to listen, and glad to be invited.  He doesn’t even care if it’s a last minute invitation, He’ll come anytime you ask.  He’s been waiting and hoping you’d call.
