I Have a Light within Me

I have a light within me.  At least I’ve been told it’s there.

I can’t seem to find it.  If you know where it is, please share.

                              

Is it under my insecurity?

Is it wrapped around my pride?

Does it get along with my ego?

Where is it hiding inside?

 

God told me I’m the light.  My mom told me to “let it shine”.

I’m sure there’s a lot of light in the world I’m just not sure it’s mine.

 

Will you help me find it?  I see the flicker in you.

What, you don’t feel it either? Let me hold a mirror up – it’s true.

 

See?  You are shining, it’s amazing, look at the light!

Go ahead turn the mirror around…oh my goodness, God was right!

 

There it is, there it is…my soul has a candle in it!

Sometimes flickering, sometimes blazing, but no doubt, eternally lit.

 

Thank you for helping me discover, my soul, my strength, my light.

Now I will always be able to find my way, even in the darkest night.

The poem and the picture are from the first Great Big Yes event!  We had a great night nourishing our bodies (with yoga) and our souls (with prayers and friendship and kindness).  The entire night felt like a big hug.  Thank you to everyone who was there – thank you for your energy and enthusiasm.  The world is a whole lot brighter with all of you in it!
