Day 12: Thanks Mom!

IMG_0694 I’m thankful for my mom today.

Everyday actually.

I just got so incredibly lucky in this area.

You know how some people are just really encouraging and kind and for you? That’s my mom.  And if you don’t know anyone who is for you…I’d like to introduce you to my mom.  She’s definitely for you.  She’s for everyone.  She’s positive and kind and fun.  She’s helpful and encouraging and a little cheerleader of goodness.

She’s the one who introduced me to poems and quotes and books and magazines.  She owned a bookstore when I was growing up and she’s always given books as gifts to me and now to my kids.  She always writes in the front cover.  I just saw one of my old books, The Light in the Attic, by Shel Silverstein and inside the cover she wrote a note to me, dated 1982.  I cherish her letters and cards and little notes of love and inspiration.

She’s given me so much.  I could write a whole month of thanks just about her.  When I sat down today to write about her it really could have gone any which way.  I just started typing and these things came up but they are just a snippet.

My mom loves Jesus.  She just does.  She doesn’t shove it down anyone’s throat or make you feel less than if you don’t agree with her.  She doesn’t walk around reciting Bible verses or demanding that people follow certain rules.  She just loves Jesus.  She doesn’t judge or condemn.  She just loves Jesus. She prays every day.  She and her friends are prayer warriors.  She knows Jesus cares about what we care about so she just talks to Him about everything.  It’s a good way to live. She studies the Bible and she goes to church and she serves others but honestly, it’s really about that one on one relationship with Him.  She lives a good life because He lives in her heart.  She invites Him every day and He shows up.

That’s why she is joyful and kind.  That’s why she can just be herself without fear.  She knows she’s safe and she’s loved and she’s blessed.

Thanks doesn’t really cut it here.  It’s not enough.  So I just try to do what I think would make her proud…be kind, love Jesus, love my family, have fun, laugh, be grateful.  It’s a pretty good recipe for a joyful life.

I hope I can give my kids the same kind of example.

Thanks Mom.

  • I too, love your mom. She is definitely a “people person”. She has a nack of being able to talk to & interact with each age group. I have spent many hours praying with her & I have heard the love she has for God & people through her tears as she prays. You & your family are indeed blessed to have her in your life.

  • Your Mom is a joy in my life also. I think the fruit from her tree is abundant and full of grace. She has filled my life with compassion, love, caring, lots of Rummicube and giggles. She is my friend and I cherish her. Sue you mirror her spirit.
