There has been lots of talk about Phillip Seymour Hoffman since his death.
I love movies and he was so good in every movie but I have to say my favorite character he played is Lester Bangs in Almost Famous.
My favorite line from him in that movie: The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what we share with someone else when we’re uncool.
Amen.
I want to be uncool with you.
I want laugh so hard 7Up comes out my nose. I want to sing at the top of my lungs and not know the words. I want it to be okay to have food in my teeth. I want to give awkward hugs. I want to talk about when I was in 5th grade and saw Grease and pretended I was Sandy all the time and sang into my hairbrush. And then I want to sing into my hairbrush. I want to show up to a party not looking like everyone else and have you tell me I’m beautiful. I want to say no to the big party and yes to Jammie’s and scrabble. I want to talk about books and how I hope to write one. I want to look into your eyes when you tell me I should write one. I want to eat all the M & Ms and most of the pizza and watch The Notebook and ugly cry. I want to tell you I’m not sure I can do it even though I pretend to be full of confidence. I want to not pretend. I want to let my guard down. I want to be uncool. And I want you to love me anyway.
