Smile

What makes you smile?

My kids make fun of me because (well, actually, for a lot of reasons but this is one example) I was making my son’s bed when he was little and I said to him, “I want to introduce you to one of life’s greatest pleasures…clean sheets!”

My daughters were in the room and think it is hilarious I said that.

But isn’t it true?

I love clean sheets.  I also love my first cup of coffee in the morning.  I love smelly candles.  I like crunchy leaves.  I like (actually LOVE) peanut m&ms.  On the days when I get a magazine in the mail, I dance around saying “I got my Mag-a-zine, I got my Mag-a-zine!”  (This provides another reason for my kids to be embarrassed by me.)

I check my email every morning for my notes from the universe (www.tut.com)  and my daily reflections from www.TheSpiritToday.com.  They make me think and they make me smile.

It’s fun to think about what makes us smile.  Of course, there are big reasons we smile but think about the little things – the things that don’t cost money, don’t involve travel, aren’t life changers.  Just the everyday, it’s good to be alive, life is simple, pleasures.

I think it’s okay my kids see me get really excited about the little things.  The little things end up being the big things, don’t they?  Life adds up from all the little moments.  If we’re smiling in the little moments, smiling becomes a habit.  We live with gratefulness, joy, appreciation and laughter. Haven’t you ever heard the quote…”Smile, it makes people wonder what you are up to”?

Another one of my favorite things is music.  It always makes me smile so I’ve included a song here to make you smile.  It’s called Smile.  (go figure)  It’s a love song (because really, of all things, LOVE makes us smile!)  and my favorite line is “you’re cooler than the flip side of my pillow”.  I don’t know about you but I think another one of life’s greatest pleasures is when you turn over your pillow to the flip side and it’s so cool and refreshing.  My kids know that too…of course, I’ve shared this trick with them them…I wouldn’t want to have them miss out on the fun.

  • So many things come to mind when I read this….Music- last night before gracie went to sleep I asked her what cd she wanted and she said “miles” as in davis….Ever since she was a baby I’ve put her to sleep to good music and it makes me smile when I hear that jazzy music coming from my sleeping girl’s room….This morning the birds were all hanging out chirping away outside her window and she asked if i would get in bed with her to snuggle while we watched the birdies….And I reminded her that when she was a baby we’d look out the window and watch the birdies while we talked to them…
Those sweet memories make me smile any time i am reminded of them….But sometimes my greatest smile is seeing my kids laugh. (and that first cup of coffee of the day comes in a close second place 🙂
    Thanks for the smiles. xo
